UNDER 8'S MATCH REPORTS

Twyford Tots

Date:                     Saturday 29th November 2008

Match 1:              Twyford Tots     vs            WestExe Youth

The young Twyford side started well, despite the cold weather. With some excellent link up play between Max Rendall, William Hall-Tonkin and Jay Stansfield, this created a few chances for Twyford to score early in the first half. As the game progressed the unbeaten WestExe Youth side warmed up and started passing well leading to a break in the deadlock.

Will Hall-Tonkin and Louis Bolduc made some great runs through midfield getting the ball into the box for Max Rendall and Jay Stansfield to get on the end of. Some narrow misses from them adding to the drama and the half ended close.

Second half there were a number of chances for Twyford to get on the score sheet from Louis Bolduc, Kieran Hadley and Jay Stansfield but it just wasn’t their day despite giving 100% effort.

Charley Long and Holly Rendall made some important clearances helping Aaron Long put in another strong performance in goal for the Twyford Tots.

Match 2:              Twyford Tots     vs            Stoke Hill Juniors

Stoke Hill started very strong and an incredible first goal came within the first minute of play. This set the tone for the fixture. Unfortunately, tired legs and cold hands set in early and without the luxury of substitutes Twyford struggled to hold their own as Stoke Hill Juniors continued to dominate most of the play.

A brave effort from Max Rendall proved too much and he had to come off, later in the half Jay Stansfield picked up an injury and also had to have an early exit. Twyford battled on, but Aaron Long and Holly Rendall also picked up knocks and required treatment.

At half time, the game was almost abandoned, but Stoke Hill Juniors kindly offered to provide some of their squad so that the game could continue. The highlight of the second half was a superb penalty saved by Ryan Morgan.

Everyone worked extremely hard, never giving up or getting despondent at conceding goals. The players did themselves, their team and the club extremely proud in very difficult circumstances.

Match 1:              Twyford Tots     vs            St Martins

Both teams battled very hard from the kick off, but it was St Martins who opened the scoring. But with some hard fought tackling from Max Rendall and some inspiring runs from Konnor Tebby, Twyford began to apply some pressure and looked like equalising. St Martins managed to score further goals to end the half ahead.

The second half was much closer between the two sides with solid defending from Toby Place and Sam Phillips. Better defending from the back and good passing from Max Rendall and Isaac Pedrick created some good runs for Konnor Tebby with a spectacular finish from Jay Stansfield which led to a Twyford goal.

Liam Napier and Holly Rendall helped keep the midfield alive and there were further chances for Konnor Tebby, Jay Stansfield and Isaac Pedrick to score.

The hero of the game has to be Aaron Long with his consistently high goalkeeping making several crucial saves kept this an exciting, enthralling and much watch fixture that was closer than the final score suggested.

Match 2:              Twyford Tots     vs            Dawlish United

Aaron Long continued to produce some sensational saves in the second match of the day. But the pitch was taking its toll on the very young Twyford side. Dawlish United proved strong opponents and scored early. Toby Place put in a tremendous performance stopping several advances with some very decisive clearances supported by right-back Sam Phillips.

Holly Rendall and Liam Napier fought hard in midfield along with strong tackling from Max Rendall and Isaac Pedrick creating chances for strikers Jay Stansfield and Konnor Tebby.

Twyford showed team spirit and all worked extremely hard, never giving up or getting despondent at conceding goals. An excellent all round performance.
