UNDER 16'S MATCH REPORTS

Twyford Under 16's

Twyford Spartans v Staplegrove - Sunday 30th November 2008

Twyford Under 16s entertained first division side Staplegrove and battled hard and showed a good display in the first half having cleared three off the line and had their crossbar struck.  They went in 0-0 at half time with a few tactical situations to improve on from the first half and they improved for majority of the game.  However when Staplegrove took the lead Twyford stepped up a level and with a good through ball from Brendan Sellens which resulted in a coolly converted finish by Michael Sandiford.  Twyford then changed formation to go for the win but with Twyford pushing forward Staplegrove counter attacked and struck a nasty blow to a Twyford team who had performed well but the game was always going to be won by a narrow margin.  Playing well was joint men of the matches Nathan Mann, Daniel Copp and Chris Tolly, also there were strong performance from Cameron Xavier, Brendan Sellens, Dean Matthews and Michael Sandiford.

Tiverton Town v Twyford Spartans - Sunday 16th November 2008

Twyford under 16s were entertained by Tiverton Town where they played on a nice pitch and found themselves 1-0 up from a superbly taken Michael Sandiford goal. Twyford then continued to battle hard like they had for most of the half but Tiverton managed to grab a goal just before the break making it 1-1 at half time.  When the second half commenced Tivvy came out the blocks fast and within 10 minutes they had scored a second and found them scoring again and again and again making the score 8-1.  However after losing a man and being down to ten men Twyford sprung to life again and got themselves a goal coming from Ricky Lait, but this was all that came from Twyford's hard work.  However there were some positives from the game as we displayed our best football of the season in the first half so we can build on that and take it onto next week.  Playing well was man of the match Jay Lehman, Chris Tolly, Sam Butler, Ryan Harte, Michael Sandiford, James Douglas and Dean Mathews

Twyford Spartans v North Petherton - Sunday 19th October 2008

Twyford started their cup campaign with a game against Division 1 mid tablers North Petherton and the game got off to a rocky start with both teams not really putting their stamp on the game and taking control of it.  As the game went on Twyford started to create more chances but with no joy which was the story till half time. The games second half started where it left off in the first with Twyford making plenty of chances but no goals rewarding the passage of play until from nothing Ricky Lait struck from 30 yards to give Twyford the lead.   Twyford then got a lift from this goal and scored another one shortly after from some good passing football through Sam Butler and Brendon Sellens who put through to Chris Tolly to score.  However North Petherton reacted to the second goal going in and started attacking more and more, they should have got a goal but if it wasn't for man of the match Cameron Xavier then they would have.  However, Twyford held out to give them another game in the cup which we all look forward to.  Other than Cameron who played well there was Owen Newsome, Sam Butler, Daniel Copp, Ryan Harte and Dean Mathews who played well.

Twyford Spartans v Bridgwater Rhode Lane - Sunday 12th October 2008

Twyford entertained a Bridgwater side and were playing well and flew into a 3-0 lead with goals from Michael Sandiford with a brace and Ricky Lait.  Bridgwater found themselves back in the game just before the break when Twyford sat off them too much and their striker took advantage of this by firing a volley into the Twyford's goal.  Bridgewater flew out the traps in the second half but Twyford managed to keep them from doubling their tally, however Bridgwater did bring the score line to 3-2 and thought they had levelled the result but for an offside decision.  Playing well for Twyford were Owen Newsome, Michael Sandiford, Ryan Harte and Chris Tolly.

Hamilton v Twyford Spartans - Sunday 28th September 2008

Twyford were entertained by Hamilton youth looking to continue there 100 percent record in the league and came out the traps quickly with an early opener by Michael Sandiford coming from some good attacking football along with some sloppy defending going down the slope.  Twyford continued this attacking threat by creating some good chances and were rewarded by doubling their lead through Lee Matravers following a good ball from Michael Sandiford.  However Hamilton got back into the game coming to the end of the half having a few chances which didn't really trouble Cameron Xavier.  Hamilton continued where they left off from the first half and used the slope to their advantage by creating more and more chances, which was to good effect when they pulled one back to make the score 2-1.  As the half went on Twyford started to get back into the game by some good defending and good positional play by the forward line creating a couple of chances which weren't taken, but Twyford continued to defend well and got through to the final whistle with a 2-1 scoreline over a good Hamilton side.  The player who stood out the most with some good physical, no nonsense defending was Ryan Hart closely followed by Sam Butler, Daniel Copp, Chris Tolly, Lee Dixon and Dean Mathews.  Furthermore the team as a whole were on good form and are all glad that they could continue the 100 percent record and look forward to their next game to make it 4 wins in 4 league games.

Twyford Spartans v Langport - Sunday 21st September 2008

Twyford had Langport as their guests this week in their second game of the season.  With a dull first half with no team really taking control of the game Twyford came out in the second half after a strong team talk at half time and started making an attacking threat.  Twyford’s attacking threat was made successful when Brendon Sellens struck from 25 yards to give Twyford the lead.  Twyford got their second goal when Twyford's front line of Ricky Lait and Michael Sandiford combined with some good football Ricky to slot home comfortably.  With ten minutes to go Langport found themselves back in the game when they made the score line 2-1, which gave them momentum for the final minutes, however Twyford managed to hold on with the loss of Cameron Xavier after a nasty collision with a Langport striker.  There were certain players who stood out with one being man of the match Brendan Sellens, also Daniel Copp, Michael Sandiford, Ryan Hart, Cameron Xavier gave solid performances. Again this Twyford team was victorious but there is still more to come from the side.

Wellington v Twyford Spartans - Sunday 14th September 2008

Twyford Under 16s travelled to Wellington for their first game of the season and were dominant for a large proportion of the game scoring 2 goals before half time coming from Chris Tolly and a 30 yard screamer from Lee Dixon.  Twyford came out in the second half and started where they left off and making their possession count by adding to their goal tally with a goal from Chris Tolly.  Twyford then sat off and thought the game was won and didn’t think they had to play anymore which allowed Wellington to get back into the game by scoring two goals.  Twyford then battled to the end of the game and picked up maximum points and got there season off to a good start but still can play better however it was the first league game and they picked up three points which was the intention.  The team as a collective played well together with Jay Leman, Michael Sandiford, Dean Matthews, Lee Dixon, Chris Tolly and Owen Newsome shone.
